Hotel Penaga is a heritage boutique hotel in the heart of George Town, Penang, Malaysia - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Created from 15 pre-war terraces and shop houses, the Hotel Penaga perfectly blends a rich history with the high standards of amenities and hospitality expected from a boutique hotel in Penang - widely recognsied as the food capital of Malaysia.
The rooms and suites at the Hotel Penaga are inidividually decorated and furnished with a mix of antique furnishings from China, modern chairs, maps of Penang and individual art pieces, many of them from the hotel's unique Artists' Residency concept, which donates upcoming artists a room in the hotel, a living allowance and a studio for periods of one to three months. Here guests can socialise with the artist in residence and see them at work.
Sustainability is important, both to the operation of the hotel and its original development - recycled materials were used wherever possible in the reconstruction of the building and in its furnishings. From planting of the garden, to collection of water and heating of the hotel from solar panels, sustainability concerns run throughout and Hotel Penaga gained a first for a heritage development with a Gold rating from the Green Building Index.
Penang offers a range of activities to the visitor including relaxing on quality beach, enjoying the cosmopolitan cuisines available - a blend of cooking from different parts of the region that results in an exciting mix of tastes and aromas - walking around the UNESCO World Heritage Site and other sites, such as the world famous Penang Butterfly Farm - all in easy walking distance of the heritage boutique hotel.
